In an ongoing effort to enhance the quality of science education in Indonesia, the Science Education Study Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Sebelas Maret University (UNS), consistently invites renowned education experts from around the globe. In October 2024, two special guest lectures were held online, featuring distinguished speakers from Deakin University, Australia, and the University of Kitakyushu, Japan.

The first session, held on October 1, 2024, featured Prof. Linda Hobbs and Dr. Seamus Delaney from Deakin University. The duo shared their expertise and experiences on the challenges faced by teachers who teach outside their field of specialization (out-of-field teaching) and the importance of ongoing professional development for science teachers. Their presentations provided valuable insights for participants, particularly teachers and aspiring teachers, on effective strategies to address these challenges and improve the quality of science learning.

Meanwhile, on October 3, 2024, Dr. Indriyani Rachman from the University of Kitakyushu, Japan, served as the guest speaker for the second session. In her presentation, Dr. Rachman highlighted the pressing issue of climate change and the role of low-carbon energy in mitigating its impacts. She presented various recent research findings and technological innovations that can be applied to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This session provided a deeper understanding for participants about the importance of integrating environmental issues into science education.

Both guest lectures successfully attracted interest not only from academics but also from education practitioners and other stakeholders. Through these events, the Science Education Study Program at FKIP UNS aims to enrich participants’ knowledge, inspire innovation in science teaching, and strengthen collaborative networks with international educational institutions.
