The Innovation in Science Classroom (ISC) Research Group Community Service Team (PKM-HGR) of the Bachelor of Science Education Study Program (BSESP), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FTTE) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has provided training to teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Plupuh, Sragen, in June 2024 with stages of planning, training implementation, mentoring, evaluation and reporting. The purpose of the activity is to improve the skills of teachers in preparing independent curriculum learning tools and supporting sustainable development programs (SDGs).
SMP Negeri 1 Plupuh, Sragen, is located on Jalan Jl. Brumbung, Dusun II, Sambirejo, Sragen, Sragen Regency, Central Java 57283, 17 km from the campus of Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. Learning activities that can empower students’ 21st-century skills are required to empower teachers’ skills as creators in the STEAM-based Pancasila Learner Profile (P5) Strengthening Project for Optimizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Effective and efficient teaching requires the right approach and learning model according to the characteristics of the material. Community Service activities that have been carried out at SMP Negeri 1 Plupuh, Sragen include: empowering teacher skills in compiling STEAM-based learning tools, training, assistance in compiling teaching modules/lesson plans with STEAM-based learning approaches and improving teacher skills in making STEAM-based learning evaluations, compiling assessments of learning processes and outcomes according to the chosen STEAM-based learning approach.
After participating in the Community Service activities, teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Plupuh, Sragen, gave the impression that in managing learning, educators must apply STEAM in teaching materials, teachers get a more concrete and clear picture in carrying out the activities of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5), providing insight into how technology can be used for education. Through the STEAM approach, it can strengthen awareness of the importance of technology in supporting innovation and more interactive learning.
Teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Plupuh apply the Strengthening Pancasila Learner Profile Project by applying the STEAM Local Wisdom Learning Approach in description text material lessons, for example describing the objects observed, batik process project tasks, project tasks to observe historical objects, then students compile reports, in science lessons applying the making of gamelan musical instruments according to local culture on sound material, P5 activities on the theme of sustainable lifestyles with waste management material, making products and works from inorganic materials around the house, for example they are creative in making decorative lamps from used bottles and others, in Science lessons on additives, students work together to observe natural sweeteners in food during earth alms activities in Sragen, P5 activities on the theme of local wisdom, craft subjects, material: processing of Sragen traditional food from tubers, nuts, cereals. Teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Plupuh Sragen gave the impression that the service from UNS could be carried out again on an ongoing basis because the knowledge provided was very useful for teachers and employees of SMPN 1 Plupuh.
